Our 3 Words

In a post on January 1st, Chris Brogan- blogger, author, entrepreneur, encouraged his readers to follow his lead and shed the notion of creating resolutions. [Note: if you are a business person or an aspiring change agent I highly suggest that you subscribe to his e-newsletter and follow him through the new media channel of your choice.] You see, for the past few years, Chris has developed 3 words that will guide him throughout the year.  That's it, 3 simple words- no complicated strategies or tactics that you may not be able to pull off- and no guilt when you don't uphold the resolution.  Main Street Orrville got the jump on this and began its exercise in November.  What are our words you ask?  Connect. Cultivate. Celebrate.

Great, we've got them, but now what will we do with them.  First- they are now out in the public domain for all of you to hold us accountable.  With that in mind, here's what we are thinking.  We will use these 3 words to evaluate all that we do throughout the year, both internally and externally.  The words can have many meanings, for instance~ Connect could be a geographical connection as we work to make downtown the connection between the north and south or east and west parts of Orrville.  Or, it could mean connecting people to resources.  Or, how about connecting people to each other?  You see, whatever we do in 2012 we want to ask ourselves are we carrying out these 3 words in some meaning?  And you can ask us the same.  I can't wait to look back in December and recap our success.
