EntreprenOrrville Center for Business Innovation
The EntreprenOrrville Center for Business Innovation (ECBI), a Main Street Orrville initiative, will develop the Orrville Area into a model community for entrepreneurial development by:
- Stimulating dreams to breed innovation;
- Providing resources to convert innovation into successful, sustainable organizations; and
- Communicating the value of these organizations, both inside and outside of the Orrville community.
Currently, ECBI facilitates two programs, the EntreprenOrrville Apprentice Challenge and the ‘Dream Out Loud in Orrville” Entrepreneur Series, in addition to providing coaching resources for new and existing businesses in Orrville.
The EntreprenOrrville Apprentice Challenge is a six week contest between Orrville High School students, seniors in the fall and juniors in the spring. During these six weeks the student teams must develop and market a product or service. Community members coach the teams during the contest period. At the close of the contest, each team’s profit is calculated and then pooled. The team generating the most profit receives 1/3 of the pool, 1/3 runs to the program as seed capital for the next round, and the remaining 1/3 is donated to Main Street Orrville in the participating students’ names, to teach the students the value of philanthropy. Here’s what participants from the Spring 2010 Apprentice Challenge had to say about their experience.
“Dream Out Loud in Orrville” Entrepreneur series is a quarterly forum focusing on topics pertinent to today’s entrepreneurs. The series launched on November 18, 2009 during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Upcoming forums will be listed in the calendar of events.
